BX3 is a lightweight, versatile stereoscopic beam splitter.  The specially designed mirror and custom filter deliver premium optical performance and ensure outstanding visual balance between left and right eye images.

The BX3 can accommodate Red One and Sony EX3 cameras.  A wide range of cameras can be adapted with suitable mounting plates.

Scientific Approach – Field Tested

When shooting 3D, all image characteristics between left and right eye cameras, aside from binocular asymmetries, need to be perfectly equal.
Color, image density, brightness, contrast and specularity are all managed exceptionally well by BX3’s sophisticated optical components.

Custom Depolarizing Filter

BX3’s custom front filter helps eliminate visual artifacts caused by linear polarized light entering the system. Retinal rivalry can result from off the shelf beamsplitters inability to handle polarized light properly.

The mirror itself is held in place by two precision clamps. These clamps provide even pressure and excellent shock absorption minimizing optical distortions. Additionally, in the event of mirror damage or breakage, simply release the two clamps and replace the mirror in seconds.

21st Century 3D’s BX3 beamsplitter rig is among the lightest multipurpose, camera agnostic, full sized stereoscopic mirror rigs currently available.

Optics

BX3 employs a unique, custom designed mirror with a special front filter that work together to provide outstanding optical performance. Off the shelf beam splitter glass is not suitable for high-end cinematography applications.

BX3’s custom optical path has been designed to ensure visual balance between reflected and transmitted images.

Tool free design

Easy setup and camera alignment are achieved via a completely tool free design that allows maximum control with minimum fuss. Hand operated dials allow
easy adjustment of roll, pitch, yaw and vertical position. Turn a knob to make an adjustment and when your images line up, stop turning. There is
nothing to lock down and no set screws to throw off your precise adjustments.

Field Maintenance

On set, the pressure is on. BX3 allows for rapid handling of common issues. When shooting with beam splitters, cleaning both the front and back of your mirror is frequently required. With BX3, this is easily achieved. Large thumbscrews allow the entire bottom of the mirror box to be quickly removed providing total access to both mirror faces.
